Information reaching Faceofmalawi indicates that a woman died on Tuesday after drowning at Senga-Bay, Salima while celebrating Mother’s Day.
The body was retrieved from Lake Malawi by well-wishers but it was too late to save her life.
The particulars of the deceased are yet to be identified.
In Malawi Mothers’ Day is commemorated on October 15 every year. The day was initially set aside by founding President Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda on October 17 and it was later celebrated on second Monday of October.
But former President Professor Bingu wa Mutharika changed the day to October 15.
