9 ESCOM senior staff members suspended for disrupting Mutharika’s speech with blackout at CHANCO

Information reaching Faceofmalawi indicates that the state owned Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) has suspended nine of its senior staff members from Southern Region office in relation to the power outage that occurred last Friday as President Peter Mutharika was addressing University of Malawi congregation during a graduation ceremony at Chancellor College in Zomba.

Power went off on Friday at Great Hall in Zomba as President Mutharika was addressing the graduating students.

The President had to suspend his speech for more than 5 minutes while waiting for power to be restored causing panic among top officials who accompanied him

Some top official who accompanied the President were seen shaking their heads in disbelief of the incident.

One of the people who has been suspended confirmed in an interview with Nation Publication Limited but declined to divulge more details saying “I am not allowed to speak on the matter.”
