AY CHEER UP A 92-YEAR-OLD RETIRED PASTOR

Date:

Adventist Youth (AY) from Blantyre recently presented assorted items worth K150, 000 to a retired pastor, Jimmy Alfred Ziyenda in Mwanza district.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, one of the AY team leaders from Sunnyside Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA), Gift Mumba said the donation was responding to the call made by the SDA-South Malawi Conference (SMC).

“As AY, we understand that many pastors go through tough moments when they retire. They lack basic necessities in their day-to-day activities. And today we have distributed bags of maize, groundnuts, some candles, powdered soap, packets of sugar, cooking oil, and other items to the retired pastor, Ziyenda as we all know that he has served in the ministry of Jesus Christ for 40 years,” said Mumba.

On his part, retired Pastor, Jimmy Alfred Ziyenda thanked the youth for the donation.

“Many times, retired pastors are treated like abandoned people. It is very rare for them to be paid a visit like what the youth from Sunnyside SDA have done. I would like to thank AY for remembering to cheer me up today. This is a good example that others should also emulate,” said Ziyenda.

Retired Pastor Ziyenda was also appointed by the former President of Malawi, Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda to be the Minister of Local Government and Development for the last two years of Kamuzu’s administration.
