Chimulirenji spends MK3.5 million a day

State Vice President Honourable Everton Helbert Chimulirenji has asked for Mk100 million from treasury office to carter for November expenses.

This has been disclosed in a letter dated November 6, 2019 addressed to Accountant General signed by Secretary from the Office of the Vice President, Wilson Moleni.

“I would like to inform you that His Honour the Vice President will attend a number of public functions this month of November, 2019. In view of this, I would like to seek authority to transfer Mk100,000,000.00 from the Office of the Vice President (Headquarters) from IFMIS to FDH account number 1970000056278 to carter for urgent expenses.

“Please find the attached budget lines where funds need to be transferred from,” reads part of the letter.

The development means Chimulirenji spends MK3.5 million per day and MK 1,277,500,000 per year.

Chimulirenji monthly expense has attracted mixed reactions on the social media with many Malawians questioning the rationale of the expenses.

One of the social commentator, Onjezani Kenani wrote: “So, urgent expenses means K3.5 million per day for Vice President Everton Chimulirenji alone. God knows how much the Commander-in-Thief spends.”
