Pastor Johannes Knoesen was arrested on Thursday for plotting a terrorist attack against black people in South Africa’s townships
Knoesen who is the self-professed leader of the National Christian Resistance Movement (NCRM) was arrested together with his fellow conspirators, Riana Heyman, 54, together with brothers Eric Abrams, 55, and Errol Abrams, 49.

According to a statement by Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, the four suspected terrorists will spend Christmas in jail after their case was postponed to 12 January. Mulaudzi told News24
“The arrest [of Knoesen] follows a two-year extensive intelligence-led investigation into the alleged terrorist plot apparently coordinated by the group to target national key points, shopping malls and informal settlements.
“Various firearms and 5 300 rounds of ammunition of different calibres, documents and other items were confiscated by the criminal record centre for further probing.”

Knoesen’s arrest comes at a time when racial tensions in South Africa seem to have escalated. This follows the murder of a black man by a white farmer in cold blood.
