Woman arrested for scalding son’s hands over Kalongonda

27 year old woman is in police cell in Chikwawa for allegedly scalding her son over velvet beans (Kalongonda).

Police Public Relations Officer for Chikwawa Foster Benjamin confirmed of the arrest and identified the suspect as Alefa Isaac.

According to Benjamin, Isaac realised the ‘Kalingonda’ was missing when she came back from the trip, she had taken leaving her furious.

“She immediately placed the child’s hands on a fire causing severe burns and locked him in the house until Friday morning,” Benjamin said.

She has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Isaac is from Saidi village, Traditional Authority Mulilima in Chikwawa District.
