Angry mob torch house of murder suspect in Mangochi

Angry mob on Wednesday torched a house belonging to Justine Matola on suspicion that he killed a 60-year-old woman over witchcraft allegations.

Mangochi police station spokesperson, Rodrick Maida confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Maida, Matola is suspected to have stabbed Getrude Banda on the back and neck several times leading to her death.

He accused her of bewitching his sick mother.

The development angered the communities who immediately after burial, descended on the suspect’s house with pangas and big stones.

Police had to fire teargas to disperse the angry mob who retaliated by pelting stones at the law enforcers making the area a no go zone.

The incident happened in the area of Mgundaphiri Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Mponda in Mangochi.
