Mutharika, Chilima shun PAC prayers

Information reaching Faceofmalawi indicates that President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has turned down an invitation by Public Affairs Committee (PAC) to attend tomorrow’s peace prayers.

PAC’s Executive Director Robert Phiri said they have received a communication that Vice President Everton Chimulirenji will attend on behalf of the President.

Apart from Mutharika, United Tranformation Movement (UTM) President Dr. Saulos Chilima is also not attending prayers, according to Phiri.

He said they have received a communiqué that UTM will have its senior officials attend on behalf of President Saulos Chilima.

Phiri said MCP’s President Lazarous Chakwera has confirmed that he will attend in person.

Chilima and Chakwera are seeking nullification of the May 21 polls, arguing that the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) failed to manage the polls.
