Police in India’s economic capital have solved the murder case of a victim whose body parts were found on three separate occasions in areas across the city of Mumbai merely nine days ago.
A man identified as 30-year-old Sohail Shaikh has confessed to the crime. He is the victim’s son, said officers investigating the matter.
According to inputs, Shaikh and his mother fought almost every single day over his alcohol addiction and unemployment.
One such fight on the night of December 28 of last year resulted in Shaikh strangulating the victim to death in a fit of rage following a heated argument at their residence in Kurla.
Under the heavy influence of alcohol at the time, he realised what he had done only the next morning.
He then went to a dargah on the morning of December 29 and later decided to do what he once saw in a TV crime show, chop off the body and dispose of the pieces.
He did so and dumped his mother’s body parts across the city, said an officer with the Ghatkopar police.
The headless torso was found on Kiror Road in Vidyavihar area on December 30 followed by the two chopped legs found in a dustbin in Ghatkopar on December 31 and the severed head found under a bridge on Santacruz-Chembur Link Road on January 4.
