Mpinganjira offered Mk100 million to Judges handling Presidential polls case

Blantyre Magistrate Court has formally charged business tycoon Thomson Mpinganjira with three counts, Faceofmalawi can reveal.

Mpinganjira was re-arrested on Tuesday night following a High Court order quashing Magistrate Bennedicto Chitsakamile’s ruling cancelling warrant of arrest obtained by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

During the hearing this morning, Senior Magistrate Simeon Mdeza slapped Mpinganjira with three count; offering advantage to public officer, an attempt to induce a public officer and attempting to induce a public officer to abuse public positions.

Between 1 October to 30 November 2019, Mpinganjira is said to have offered K100 million to Justice Tembo for him and other judges presiding over the Presidential elections case to decide the matter in favor of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

Bail application for Mpinganjira has been adjourned to 3pm.
