Thieves steal 40-inch plasma TV from police station Read more

Police at Jinja Central Police Station, Uganda, are investigating circumstances under which a television set which was gifted to them a few weeks ago was stolen.

The 40-inch plasma screen that was given to the law-enforcement agency by Startimes last month was on Monday, January 13, mysteriously plucked off the wall adjacent to the reception.

According to a report by the Daily Monitor, while police thought they had firmly kept the incident under wraps, a detective who declined to be named on Tuesday morning said the television was stolen.

“The TV was given to us last month by Startimes and it was fitted directly opposite the reception; unfortunately, it has been stolen and we don’t know who took it,” the officer said. 

Kiira Region police Spokesperson, Diana Nandaula, confirmed the incident.

“It is true our television has been stolen and we have tasked the officers who were on duty to explain how that happened,” she said.

In a related case, a suspect who had been booked at Kaptaga Police Station, Elgeyo Marakwet stole an Occurrence Book at the station after an officer who was on duty rushed to his house.

According to a police reports, Julius Kiprono escaped under unclear circumstances even though he was chained and handcuffed in police cells.

“The suspect went away with a pair of handcuffs, a chain, a padlock and an Occurrence Book,” the report read in part
