Malawi to hold fresh polls on May 19

Parliament has managed to set a date for fresh elections through amendment of Parliamentary and Presidential Act which says the elections will be heald on May 19 2020.

This amid protest from Government and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) MPs led by leader of the House Kondwani Nankhumwa.

The amendment has also allowed a run-off off presidential election to be held after 30 days if no candidate gets half or more of the valid votes.

In an interview, the mover of the bill, who is member for Lilongwe City south west Nancy Tembo expressed excitement that now Parliament has fulfilled the court orders.

Meanwhile all eyes will now be on President Peter Mutharika to assent to them.
