Man drowns in Lungwena River

A 45 year old man, Chitonga Saidi drowned in Lungwenya river in Mangochi Tuesday evening, February 25, 2020 after he had tripped while atrying to cross a bridge.

Deputy Publicist for Mangochi police station, Amina Tepani Daudi told ManaOnline that Saidi was pushing his bicycle through the bridge on his way back from Lungwena trading centre where he had gone to sell firewood.

Well-wishers pulled him out of the water and rushed him to Lungwena Health Centre where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Postmortem conducted by the medical practitioner at the same hospital revealed that death was due to suffocation.

Chitonga Saidi hailed from Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi.
