Mutharika Affirms ‘DPP-UDF Alliance to Win Above 50+1’ in the Fresh Elections

President Peter Mutharika has declared that his Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will scoop the needed 50+1 in the fresh elections if the Supreme Court of Appeal will not reverse the Constitutional Court ruling.

Mutharika said this yesterday in Lilongwe when he addressed his supporters who were demonstrating in the capital city disagreeing with the Constitutional Court ruling on the presidential elections case.

His remarks come in barely few days after DPP announced of the possible alliance with the United Democratic Front (UDF) ahead of the fresh elections to be held on May 19.

Speaking to DPP supporters in the central region, Mutharika urged them to stay firm and courageous even though they are passing through what he said ‘hard times’

He therefore commended the supports for their genuine love for the party and strong heart as they came out in large numbers to demonstrate against on what he called ‘democratic injustice’

Speaking on the alliance with UDF, Mutharika described the development as timely, and promising that DPP will win the fresh elections with a big margin as they have beefed up their support.

“Let me promise you that with this alliance with the UDF, we will win these elections again with a landslide,” dares Mutharika.

He therefore, urged all his supporters to remain calm and patriotic as the country is heading towards fresh elections as ordered by the Constitutional Court.

Since last week, the DPP has been holding demonstrations in all the regions across the country showing their dissatisfaction with the February 3 , 2020 Constitutional Court ruling which nullified the May 21, 2019 presidential elections and reverted all presidency position prior to the 2019 polls.
