After holding successful workshops in Blantyre, Zomba and Nsanje a Blantyre based renown arts theatre group, Dikamawoko is planning to hold another similar seminars in Mzuzu city to achieve their prime object of creating job opportunities for young actors.
Director of the grouping Taonga Khonjera said proper venues and dates for the workshop will be known in the near future but he cited this yearâs Easter holiday as favorable time for the commencement of the training.
khonjera said the workshop is more imperative as it will help youths in the city to have holistic understanding and knowledge in script writing, video production, video editing and cinematography.
He said the training eventually will also help to see people able to produce their own films that would even compete with those of international fields.
âour goal is to provide job opportunities to young people through acting and in the process discuss social issues that affect them,â said khonjera.
Khonjera further said the grouping is in the middle of doing theater rehearsals for a play calledâ A DRY PONDâ that will be shown in the trainings as part of inspiration to the students.
âstudents need to be moved. We are therefore optimistic that through this film leaners will be encouraged and inspiredâ, he narrated, adding that the course will be a hands-on exercise .
However khonjera lamented luck of funds for the grouping to do more in film making.
“It is a circle. We need money to advertise so that people come to the show or workshops. But these days you need to put up posters, television ads, radio ads newspaper ads and then on social media. sometimes we fail to do all these because of luck of moneyâ complained khonjera who is also a producer of a famous short film THE LAST FISHING BOAT.
Other targeted areas for the trainings include kalonga and Lilongwe.
