UTM, MCP supporters celebrate court ruling in Zomba

As debate continues on the outcome of the court on ruling on the disputed May 21 Presidential election case, United Tranformation Movement (UTM) and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) this morning held a parade in Zomba.

The parade started at Chinamwali town up to 3 miles.

Speaking in an interview with Times radio, MCP Director of the Youth in the Eastern Region, Ramsey Khan, said the court ruling is a sign of new era in the country’s democracy.

In Lilongwe, MCP and UTM supporters have gathered at their respective headquarters where they are celebrating the Constitutional Court ruling.

MCP President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is expected to speak to his supporters any time from now.

The Constitutional Court on Monday nullified the May 21 polls and called for fresh election to be held in a period of 150 days.

The ruling also saw Saulos Chilima returning his State Vice President role while Everton Chimulirenji was demoted to nobody.

The court also ordered for the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to settle all expenses for the first petitioner (Dr. Saulos Chilima) and the second petitioner (Dr. Lazarus Chakwera) throughout the case.
