Chief resident Magistrate Violet Chipao has granted bail to Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) leaders arrested this week for planning to seal State House residences across the country on March 25, 2020.

The three HRDC leaders are Timothy Mtambo, Gift Trapence and MacDonald Sembereka.

Chipao said the state failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt why the accused should not be given bail.

The Magistrate has ordered the three to pay a cashbond of K200 000 each and non-cash surety of K2 million each.

The Court has also ordered the three to also not commit any offence , not interfere with state investigations, surrender their travelling documents among others.

Further, the three are required to be reporting to police headquarters at area 30 in Lilongwe every Friday.
