5 Robert Brake Students Arrested Over Unruly Conduct

Five Students from Robert Brake Secondary School in Dowa district have been arrested for allegedly committing an offence of conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) said the students began displaying unruly behaviour on March 13 at Dowa 1 Primary School when they broke classroom door in a revenge attack on pupils who insulted them during a football match.

“On March 13, 2020 there was a football match between Kongwe Primary School and Dowa 1 Primary School at Robert Brake football pitch. It is alleged that pupils from Dowa 1 Primary School insulted students from Robert Brake Secondary School.

At the end of the match, students from Robert Brake Secondary School chased the pupils when they were going home in order to beat them because of the insults. The following day March 14, 2020 went to Dowa 1 Primary School where they broke one of the classroom door but they were chased away by the school’s headteacher and police.” Explained Sub Inspector M’bumpha

The Dowa Police PRO further indicated that on yesterday March 16, the students ganged up once again for a revenge attack after hearing that Dowa 1 primary school pupils had blocked Robert Brake School motor vehicle.

“But on their way to beat up the pupils, they met resistance from the pupils and parents surrounding the school.

Following the incident, five of the stray students who ran away into the maize field were arrested by parents and handed over to police.” Said M’bumpha

He has since indicated that no injuries have been reported and the students have been released on police bail and sent back to school.
