Thousands of Malawians have gathered at Kamuzu Institute of Sports in the capital Lilongwe to witness the alliance signing ceremony of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and the United Transformation Movement (UTM) of Dr. Saulos Chilima.

The alliance of the two follows the court order calling for fresh Presidential polls within a period of the 150 days.

Speaking at the ceremony UTM Secretary General, Patricia Kaliati, said the MCP/UTM alliance provides the only hope to emancipate Malawians from various socio and economic challenges they are facing.

“I want to thank our leaders for uniting, and not letting differences of where they come from to hinder development,” said Kaliati.

On her part, former President Dr. Joyce Banda said: “we have beeen waiting for a day like this for a long time. I have to thank Saulos Chilima, Lazarus Chakwera and all other presidents here for seeing the importance of developing this country.”
