MSC Reduces Number of Passengers On Its Vessels

The Malawi Shipping Company (MSC) has reduced the number of passengers sailing on their vessels which include MV Ilala from 500 to 100 including the ship crew as a precautionary measure of preventing the spread of the coronavirus in Malawi.

Company spokesperson Thomas Chafunya says the decision is in line with recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the country’s state president that people should not gather in convergences of over 100 people.

Meanwhile, Likoma and Chizumulu Islands residents say the directive has negatively affected their social livelihood saying traveling by water is their only way out to the mainland to search for their daily needs.
