APAM VISITS 92 YEAR-OLD GRANDMOTHER WITH ALBINISM

Sustainable and speedy collective efforts to protect persons with albinism are said to be the surest way of guaranteeing provision of practical security services.

Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi – APAM President Ian Simbota made the call on Sunday in Kapopo village at Jenda in Mzimba during a solidarity visit to 92 year old grandmother with albinism Tafwauli Ngoma who some suspected criminals chopped off two of her toes in February 2020.

APAM has condemned the attack and called for practical and sustainable ways of protecting persons with albinism by among others expediting construction of safer houses using 600 million kwacha in the current national budget.

Police have since arrested three men; two being neighbours and one witchdoctor, in connection to the suspected ritual attack believed to be linked to the upcoming presidential election and are awaitingcourt appearance.

APAM also took time to sensitise various churches and community members using star cycles (groups of about 15 people) on coronavirus prevention.
