By Lovemore katamnda

Malawi congress party president Dr.Lazarus chakwera has called upon Malawians to be caution with the fast wide spread corona virus.

Chakwera made the call during alliance signing ceremony of the two giant opposition parties, Malawi congress and United Transformation Movement (UTM) on Thursday at Kamuzu institute of sports ground in Lilongwe.

Chakwera who is also a leader of opposition in parliament taught the gathering ways of preventing the deadly virus like washing hands regularly and avoiding hand shake among others.

Turning to the alliance signing ceremony, chakwera described the function as milestone in the story of Malawi.

He said many Malawians are tired of the current administration of professor peter Mutharika, saying is characterized by corruption and failure of upholding the rule of law.

Chakwera said president peter of Mutharika of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) should assent to the all electoral bills passed by parliament and fire Malawi Electoral Commission(MEC) chairperson Jane Ansa and all commissioners, saying is the wish of many Malawians .

“If he (Mutharika) will not assent to electoral bills and not fire Jane Ansa and MEC commissioners, he will now know the true owner of this country,” warned chakwera.

In his remarks, UTM leader Dr Saulos chilima also described the occasion as a breakthrough to the country’s prosperity.

Chilima who  is also the current country’s vice president implored party leaders in the alliance to burry their hatchets and start afresh for the alliance to achieve its mission.

According to chilima, the alliance which comprises of other political parties like AFORD, Mafunde, People’s Party (PP), PETRA and Umodzi party (UP) is yet to announce the right person who will lead the alliance in the forthcoming polls but people’s expectations are high that MCP  president Dr. Lazarus chakwera will lead the alliance followed by UTM leader Saulos Chilima as running mate.

Malawi is expected to hold fresh elections within 150 days following the ruling by constitutional court 5 judges on 3 February this year in Lilongwe.
