Police in Mponela, Dowa are keeping in custody a man for allegedly raping and then killing a 16-yr-old Foliya Paulo, a standard 6 learner at Nkhamanga Full Primary school.
Foliya’s body was found in a Soya Bean Field on February 28, 2020.
According to Paulo Mulosi 46, who hails from Mantchichi Village, Senior Chief Dzoole in Dowa, on February 27, 2020, his daughter paid a visit to their relatives at Mphangala Village.
After the visit, reports indicate that Foliya left the village in company of two friends. It is believed that after the friends had returned along the way, the suspect (name withheld) took advantage of the girl.
It is believed, the suspect, dragged the victim into a Soya bean field where he defiled her before strangling her to death.
Her body was found the following morning by passers- by.
Police and medical personnel from Mponela Rural Hospital visited the scene and postmortem results indicated that Foliya was defiled before being strangled to death.
The suspect will be taken to court soon to answer murder charges.
