Mutharika’s Tone of Speech During Rallies’ Worries Political Commentator ‘The country is reverting to autocratic rule’

A political commentator Vincent Gondwe has expressed concern over President Peter Mutharika’s tone of speech during rallies.

According to Gondwe, with how Mutharika is expressing himself when he took to the podium is a clear sign that the country is reverting to autocratic rule.

Gondwe’s concern came following what he (Mutharika) said on Sunday at Njamba Freedom Park during a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) joint rally.

At the rally, Mutharika threatened to deal with members of Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) who are questioning his abilities of governing the country.

Apart from attacking the HRDC, yesterday in Chikwawa Mutharika also took time to claim dominance over human rights stressing that he has taught human rights law for 40 years at some of the best universities in the world.

He maintains that the international human rights organizations do not know what they are doing and must organize themselves.

Critics however warn that Mutharika is walking the path of his late brother and former President Bingu who had a rough tide with cooperation partners during his second term.
