Ntcheu District Counsel to Take Legal Action Against Creditors

Ntcheu District Commissioner, Smart Gwedemula has vowed to take legal action against tenants who do not pay rentals.

The commissioner said, out of K7 million that the counsel is supposed to collect in the Ntcheu bus depot, it is managing to recover only K3 million.

“The reason is that, there are people who owe us money, the issue has been there for quite along time about three or four years. We have tried to engage these people, wrote them warning letters even the finance committee visited them but it appear that these people are not ready to settle their debts… the next course of action that we are taking now is legal action,” Gwedemula said.

The Counsel Chairperson of Finance and auditing service committee, Azel Mike says the counsel has put in strategies to improve revenue collection

“We have strategized words on how we are going to address some problems that affect our market. Most of the problems are due to insufficient funds from the higher market… so, we want to make sure that all the problems that are in the market are being addressed,” he said.

Meanwhile, members of the council have passed 2020-2021 budget for the district amounting to K1.6 billion.
