Students Fight, Damages School Property Over Football Game, Police In For Action in Rumphi

Police in Rumphi are hunting for students of Rumphi and Nyika Secondary Schools for damaging schools’ properties in a fight over football match.

Inspector Henry Mnjere, Rumphi Police Station PRO said students clashed each other yesterday night March 16 and 17 today March 17, 2020 after a football match encounter on that took place on Saturday March 14 2020.

“Irate students from both schools started vandalising each other’s school properties in a fierce fight. Police rushed to the scene and dispersed the warring students.” Disclosed Inspector Henry Mnjere

“After the match students went back to their respective schools but to the surprise, two days later it resurfaced.” Said Mnjere

He said report indicates that a storeroom at Rumphi Secondary School which had various materials such as cement, mattresses, iron sheets, tins of paint, timbers and electricity cables has been gutted down.

“It is also reported that some window glasses of head teacher’s house and boys’ hostel at Nyika Private Secondary School have been damaged by suspected students from Rumphi Secondary School.” He added

Mnjere has since disclosed that total value of damaged properties has not been established as Management from both schools are still assessing the damage.

“The police strongly condemn the vandalism and malpractice of taking laws into own hands whenever disagreements arise.” Said Inspector Mnjere
