Man Dies In Road Accident in Dowa

A man has died in a road accident in Dowa after being hit by a motor vehicle on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Isaac Mastone from Mbonyera Village in Traditional Authority Chiwere in Dowa District, confirmed Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO).

“The accident which happened at Chezi Trading Centre involved unknown motor vehicle, driven by unknown driver who was coming from Salima going towards Lilongwe direction. Upon arrival at Chezi Trading Centre, the motor vehicle hit the pedestrian who was crossing the road from nearside to the offside and the driver did not stop.” Said M’bumpha

Following the impact, he said the casualty sustained exposed Tibia fracture on the right lower leg and he was taken to Chezi Private Hospital and was later referred to Dowa District Hospital where he died while receiving treatment.

The Dowa Police PRO has since said police have launched a manhunt for the motor vehicle and the driver and if arrested, he will answer a charge of causing death by reckless driving.
