Myths, Beliefs Leading to Defilement Cases in Ntchisi

Police in Ntchisi say defilement cases are on the rise in the district due myths and beliefs of HIV and AIDS and getting rich.

According to Ntchisi police publicist sub inspector Richard Kaponda, investigations which they did recently have revealed that many children in the district are being abused this way because the perpetrators still believe that by defiling a young girl they will be cured from HIV and AIDS or they will get rich.

“Some people are still defiling girls because they want to get rich and others be cured from HIV and AIDS but as police we are sensitizing communities that these are just myths”, He said.

From 2019 last year to date, 13 cases have been recorded from various areas in the district and the cases have only been reduced with 2 since in 2019 during the same period 15 cases were recorded.
