Atupele speaks out on DPP-UDF alliance torchbearer

United Democratic Front (UDF) President Atupele Muluzi has said President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will represent the UDF-Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) alliance in fresh Presidential polls scheduled for July 2, 2020.

Muluzi’s remarks come barely hours after the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) confirmed that President Mutharika has collected nomination papers ahead of the fresh Presidential polls.

Writing on his official facebook page, Muluzi said Mutharika will represent DPP/UDF alliance.

“For the record the DPP/UDF torchbearer is His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and ONE nomination form has been collected for that purpose#DPP/UDF Alliance #ThePeoplesAlliance,” wrote Muluzi.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that Atupele Muluzi who is also Minister of Energy has been earmarked for the runningmate post.

The constitutional court on February 3, 2020 nullified the May 21, 2019 Presidential polls and called for fresh polls within a period of 150 days.
