MEC investigating vandalism of its equipment by DPP cadets in Blantyre

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Justice Dr. Jane Ansah has confirmed some unknown people have destroyed its registration equipment at three centers in Blantyre, early today.

She said Blantyre Secondary, Ndirande Primary and Chirimba Primary Schools are the affected registration centers.

Ansah added one of the suspected attackers has been arrested, a claim the Malawi Police Service is yet to comment on.

Some social media reports indicate that some registrations staff have also suffered injuries as a result of the attack.

Meanwhile, the commission is conducting a fact finding exercise to establish the rationale behind the incident, which is so far of higher magnitude since the voter registration started on 4th April in six districts of Karonga, Chitipa, Dedza, Nsanje, Chikwawa and Blantyre.
