Mercy Baula Gondwe who was arrested last week on allegations that she authored a story that FDH bank is collecting people’s IDs and in turn give them to DPP for rigging in the coming Fresh Presidential Election is still behind bars in Blantyre.
The material that she wrote went viral in various social media platforms a thing that didn’t go well with with the reputation of FDH bank and considering the damages of her false allegations the bank’s legal team took up the matter and that ended her into the hands of police.
Note that last year the Reserve Bank of Malawi phased out the use of other IDs for bank transaction and recognized national ID as the only card to be used in all banks.
Every bank you go you are required to produce your Malawi national ID or a valid passport and this has got nothing to do with the rigging claims.
GCK Cameras can reveal that Mercy Gondwe will today appear before the Blantyre Magistrate Court for bail application.
Gondwe when first appeared before the court she pleaded not guilty to the charges of authoring the information but rather accepted transmission of the story.
According to MACRA section 84 subsection 8 bullet B of the Electronic Transaction of Cyber security of 2016 it is says it is an offence to and it prohibits the communication and disclosure and transmission of personal data without authorization from data subject.
It further says the public should refrain from committing these acts as such conduct may attract serious legal sanctions.
It is sad to note that since her arrest no one from the social media has ever had time to visit her despite their support on social media on what she did.
This should be a big lesson to all social media users to be responsible in terms of what we share or forward from unknown people.
