Mini Bus Driver on remand for stabbing passenger over social distancing

GHANA – A commercial mini bus driver who stabbed one passenger to death and left another injured over social distancing disagreement has been remanded by the Koforidua Circuit Court in Ghana.

The 32-year-old man was arraigned on a charge of murder and his plea reserved.

Ghana Eastern Region Police PRO Ebenezer Tetteh who confirmed the incident to 3news.com said a day after the partial lockdown in parts of Ghana was lifted, two brothers boarded a vehicle being driven by the accused person.

The accused person was said to have picked more passengers than the required number approved for commercial mini buses on the back of the coronavirus outbreak.

The two brothers, according to the police, protested the behaviour of the driver, which resulted in a quarrel between them and the driver’s mate until they alighted at Akwadum.

One of them was said to have slammed the door of the vehicle said something that infuriating to the already angry driver.

He got out of the vehicle to fight the two brothers and in the process stabbed them.

They were rushed to the Koforidua Central Hospital where one of them was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile the other person, according to the police, is responding to treatment.
