Chilima’s case to have MEC commissioners fired on hold

High Court Judge Ruth Chinangwa has put on hold hearing of a case in which United Transformation Movement (UTM) leader Saulos Chilima wants Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) commissioners fired.

Last month, Chilima through his lawyers filed a case with the High Court seeking intervention on the plea to have MEC commissioners led by its Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah fired.

But the case has been put on hold by Judge Ruth Chinangwa.

According to Chinangwa, hearing of the case has been put on hold pending the Supreme Court of Appeal’s ruling as MEC is challenging the order for the fresh presidential elections.

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and MEC appealed the Constitutional Court ruling nullifying the May 21, 2019 Presidential polls.

Meanwhile the Supreme Court will deliver its ruling anytime soon.
