DPP Faults MEC, NRB in the Voter Registration Exersice

The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has expressed concern with how the voter registration exercise is being handled by the responsible authorities in the exercise.

In a four paged press statement directed to Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah, DPP Secretary General Grezeldar Jeffrey said the National Registration Bureau (NRB) spent less days in Blantyre, Chikwawa and Nsanje districts to register people for national identity cards which is a prerequisite for the voter registration exercise.

The statement further added that the NRB machines are faulty and therefore slow in registering people.

The DPP has therefore called on MEC and NRB to revisit the registration process and conduct the task in the affected districts.
DPP has since said vowed to continue speaking out on any electoral malpractices observed.
Second Phase of the registration exercise for the presidential elections slated for July 2, 2020 is underway in some districts across the country.
