4 Year Old Zimbabwean Girl Tests Positive For Coronavirus In Latest Results

Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health has revealed that among their recent tests for Covid-19, one of the cases is of a 4 year old girl from Bulawayo, making her the youngest case in Zimbabwe thus far.

Three other minors of the same house after, 10,14 and 16 also tested positive for Covid-19 and they are all from the same household with case 16 who also tested positive for the virus.

The Ministry said:

“The Ministry has stepped up screening and diagnostic testing in all provinces in line with the new COVID-19 testing strategy. A total of 583 tests were done today as detailed in the table below, giving a total of 1299 screening and diagnostic tests done to date.

“Therefore, to date. Zimbabwe now has twenty-four confirmed case, including two recoveries and three deaths.

“Of all the PCR tests done in Harare today, one was positive for COVID-19. while all PCR tests done in Bulawayo today were negative for COVID-19.

“Case #19 is a 4-year-old girl. while cases #20, 21 and 22 involve 10-year-old, 14-year-old and 16- year-old female residents of Bulawayo, who were all contacts of case #I6.

“They were tested by the local Rapid Response Team as part of our intensified surveillance and contact tracing for COVID-19. All are stable, on self-isolation at home and with mild disease.

“Case #23 is a 52-year-old female resident of Bulawayo, who was a contact of case #15. She was also tested by the local Rapid Response team as part of our Intensified surveillance and contact tracing for COV1D-19. She is stable, on self-isolation at home and with mild disease.

“The Ministry continues to be on HIGH alert to the COVID-19 pandemic and would like to remind the nation that, the most effective ways to protect yourself and others against COVID-19 are to practise good personal hygiene and exercise social distancing.”
