APAM Calls for Immediate Resignation of Ntaba as Chairperson for National Technical Committee on PWA

President of Association of Persons with Albinism, Ian Simbota has written president Peter Mutharika demanding immediate resignation of Hertherwick Ntaba from the chairmanship of National Technical Committee on Persons with Albinism in Malawi.

According to Simbota, APAM is appalled by the revelations at the High Court of Zomba and later in Blantyre where suspects in Masambuka Case are implicating Ntaba as the man at the helm of killings and abductions of persons with albinism in Malawi.

He said, as APAM they are dismayed with allegations of Ntaba who is serving as the chairperson of the committee responsible for spearheading the end of the plight of persons with albinism as he is allegedly sitting on the report on the attacks of persons with albinism.

“Despite registering progress in the implementation of National Action Plan, Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi is appalled by the High Court of Zomba and layer in Blantyre where suspects of Masambuka case are implicating Dr. Ntaba as the man at the helm of killings and abductions of Persons with albinism in Malawi,” Simbota said.

APAM has also given Ntaba until 30th April to honorably resign.

Simbota has since asked President Peter Mutharika to fire Ntaba should he not amicably resign by 30th April.

“Your Excellency Sir, recognizing the constitutional overarching power accorded you, APAM honourably asks you to fire Dr. Ntaba from the office of Chairperson of the National Technical Committee by 30th April, 2020 should Dr. Ntaba happens not to amicably resign ” reads part of the letter.

The Association has warned that it will unreservedly take unspecified actions until justice is delivered.

However, Hertherwick Ntaba is not moved with the demand.

For him, he is not currently sitting on the report as alleged by APAM because, chairperson of the Commission of inquiry on attacks of persons with albinism is better placed to respond to such accusations.

He further said cannot further comment on the issues that are in court regarding his alleged involvement in the killings of persons with albinism as allayed by some witness in the Masambuka case.

“It is very surprising that APAM is demanding my resignation as if I am the one chairing commission of inquiry on attacks of persons with albinism,” Ntaba said.

Government of Malawi developed National Action Plan on persons with albinism spanning from 2018 to 2022.

Subsequently, a National Technical Committee was established by President Mutharika whose purpose is to provide a technical oversight in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of National Action Plan.
