Their reunion was captured on the courtroom camera.

The judge was Mindy Glazer. As she was telling the prisoner his sentence, she suddenly remembered she actually knows the person standing before her. It was Arthur Booth, Mindy’s former classmate from middle school. Unfortunately, now he was being charged with burglary.

Glazer was unpleasantly surprised to see Arthur in the court. When she recognized him, she asked: “Did you go to Nautilus for middle school?”

The convict burst into tears. He couldn’t believe the judge was someone he knew ever since he was a little boy. All he could say was: “Oh my goodness!”

As kids, Mindy and Arthur were going to Miami Beach’s Nautilus Middle School together.

Both of them were promising children with great potential. Sadly, Arthur’s life took a wrong turn.

Judge Glazer was heartbroken seeing her former classmate failing at life, ending up in the courtroom. She told him: “I’m sorry to see you there. I always wondered what happened to you.” Mindy added that Arthur was the nicest kid in their middle school.

Booth was struggling with drug addiction. During his adult life, he was constantly in and out of jail. But fate had other plans for him. Mindy was the best judge possible to help Arthur deal with his issues, face the consequences, and start making the right choices for him and for his family.

Nearly a year later, Mindy and Arthur had another fateful encounter. It was the day Arthur was released from jail.

Of course, his family was there to support him, but so was judge Mindy Glazer. She was there not only to greet him for finally getting out of prison but also to give him a valuable message. What she told him was life-changing. She said: “Take care of your family. Try to get a job. Stay clean. You’re gonna do something good for somebody else. That’s what you gotta do.”

The motivation from an old friend was what Arthur Booth, now released from jail, needed to start making the right choices in his life.

Remember this: You are free to choose whatever you want, but you are never free from the consequences of your choices.

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It’s not your parents, your relationships, your job, the weather, or the times we live in. No one else is responsible for your choices but you.

This story of two significant encounters shows two people coming from similar backgrounds but making different choices in their lives. It is a perfect example of how every single choice and decision you make defines who you are and predetermines your life path. As the famous author, J.K. Rowling, once wrote, “It is our choices … that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
