Govt launches online learning for students in Lilongwe

As one way of cushioning the shocks #COVIDー19 has impacted on the education sector, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is this morning launching online learning for students in the country as well as the signing ceremony of an MoU with TNM Limited for the support of the same.

The ceremony is taking place at Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe and is being presided over by Minister of Education Science and Technology Dr William Susuwele Banda and Chief Executive Officer for TNM PLC, Mr. Michiel Buitelaar.

In his speech, Michiel Buitelaar said TNM is committed towards supporting government’s efforts in the fight against coronavirus by assisting in provision of the online platforms for students in the country to access education resources.

On his part Susuwele Banda said all materials on ministry of education website will be accessed by students for free by using TNM lines.

He said government has since uploaded materials for students in Forms 1 and 2.

According to Banda, about 4.4 million students have been left stranded due to Covid-19 hence coming up with the online lessons.

Banda said all media outlets including radios, television and print will be also publish and air the education materials.

In the agreement, TNM plc has offered to provide free access to online education content for students to access lessons.

All Form1 and 2 students will be able to access lessons through the ministry’s website www.education.gov.mw where the lessons have been uploaded at no data cost.

The requirement is that the students should have a TNM number.

TNM will be uploading forms 3 and 4 content as soon as development of the content is finalized.
