Health Authorities To Conduct Follow Ups on Covid-19 Case in Blantyre

Health authorities in Blantyre have disclosed that they are on alert and conducting follow-ups on the first case of no link to travel, as it poses a threat of community transmission.
On 15th April, Blantyre registered another case of corona virus; a 70 year old man of Asian origin who had no travel history or been in contact with any Covid-19 positive person.
District medical officer for Blantyre Dr. Fatsani Gunda said, authorities were suspecting the patient might either have contracted the virus from the mosque or his business place.
Gunda added that having community transmission will be a worrisome development as it will result into rapid spread but was quick to say that health officials are still tracing those that might have been in contact with the patient.
So far Blantyre has registered 8 cases with one death.
Meanwhile, the immigration and citizenship services department has told us that it is allowing Malawians who were abroad to return in the country.
This follows an observation that the country continues to register new imported coronavirus cases despite government announcing that it only allow trucks with essential goods to pass through the countrys borders.
However, speaking Joseph Chauwa, spokesperson for immigration and citizenship services department said the department is allowing Malawians who want to return home to enter the country since they are country’s citizens.
