Malawi Gaming Board and National Lotteries Donates K10 Million to Government to Fight Covid-19

As one way of social responsibility Malawi Gaming Board and National Lotteries has splashed out K10 million to government to assist in combating and preventing further spread of Corona Virus in the country through messages.

Briefing Journalists at Mount Soche Hotel in the commercial City of Malawi, Blantyre, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health Dr Dan Namalika commended the Board for the gesture urging other companies and Organizations to emulate good example sent by the Malawi Gaming Board and National Lotteries.

He said the money will help the government to spread the COvid-19 messages in the country so that people should be aware on how they can avoid the spread of the epidemic.

“If the Corona Virus can stay in the country for a year, 85 percent of Malawi can be infected and therefore we need to observe the hygiene to prevent it from further spreading,” he said.

Namalika also said the government has budgeted K130 billion to contain the further spread of Covid-19 and with the coming in of Malawi Gamming Board – it has assisted the budget.

He said some of the challenges the country is facing is shortage of human resource both in Health sector and system hence government directed to recruit 2,000 health workers to fill the gap.

“I also urge the postponement of Fresh Presidential elections so that they could avoid the spreading of the Covid-19,” he said.

The Board Chairperson for the Board Billy Banda urged NGO’s, media and political parties to help the government in disseminating messages to people to have them have knowledge on how they can control the spread of the Corona Virus.

“I urge various stakeholders to contribute their part as what we have done like giving out money to the government,” he said.

Five people have been diagnosed positive three in Lilongwe and two in Blantyre. One death has so far been recorded.
