A social commentator, Humphreys Mvula has commended President Peter Mutharika over the recent sanctions as the quest to contain the spread of the Covid-19 rages on.
Among other things, Mutharika has ordered a 10% pay cut to ministers and deputies.
He has also ordered the recruitment of two thousand health workers whom he also advised the health ministry to provide a relatively higher risk allowance.
But in weighing on the steps, Mvula while commending the orders says there is need for the President to work with the opposition parties towards a common goal of addressing impacts of Covid-19.
” At this time, it should go way beyond the orders he [Mutharika] has made. All stakeholders should be involved in the presidential directives,” Mvula told MIJ Online.
Meanwhile, Consumer rights body, CAMA has expressed satisfaction with the reduction in pump prices.
Pump prices have had a global reduction and the development in Malawi was announced two hours after Mutharika ordered the Malawi Energy Regular
Energy regulator Mera has reduced fuel prices and The price for petro is at Mk780 per Litre from MK930 while Diesel is being sold at Mk765 per Litre from MK887and Paraffin is at Mk625 from MK693 respectively.
John Kapito Executive Director for Consumers Association of Malawi said the move is recommendable saying it will cause a downward adjustment of transportation costs.
