Supreme Court says use of Constituency tally centre unlawful

The Supreme Court of Appeal has agreed with the Constitutional Court ruling on the use of constituency tally centre by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), saying the tally centre were used unlawfully.

Justice Lovemore Chikopa of the Supreme Court said this when reading out the ruling this morning in the capital Lilongwe.

“We agree with the court below that the Constituency tally centres were unlawful”-Supreme Court judge Chikopa.

The Court also said it was not for political party representatives to determine whether an election was free and fair.

Turning to use of tippex, fake tally sheets, reserved tally sheets, improvised tally sheets, the court said all amounted to irregularities.

Meanwhile the court has adjourned for launch.
