Ex-diplomat John Chikago endorses Chakwera-Chilima’s Tonse Alliance

Former Malawi Ambassador to Japan Dr. John James Chikago has endorsed the Tonse Alliance of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera ahead of the fresh Presidential polls scheduled for July 2, 2020.

Chakwera who is also President of the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has formed an alliance of United Transformation Movement (UTM) and seven other political parties under the banner Tonse Alliance.

The alliance will be represented by Dr. Chakwera and he has picked State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima as his runningmate in the fresh polls.

Writing on his official facebook page, Chikago said Tonse Alliance is from God to stop theft of public resources and ethnic nationalism.

“Malawi is one of the poorest states in the world therefore cannot afford the luxury of the winner takes all. It needs an all-inclusive government for the country to be represented at all levels. Some hospitals in rural areas have five ambulances while other district hospitals do not have even one.

“Some districts have rural tarmac roads when others do not.have this is not.to mention concrete decked bridges. So the Tonse Alliance is from God to stop theft of public resources and ethnic nationalism,” wrote Chikago.

In the run-up to May 21, 2019, Chikago endorsed President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika after dumping the main opposition MCP.

Chikago even campaigned for President Mutharika and his then runningmate Everton Chimulirenji and the two won the polls but the constitutional court on February 3, 2020 nullified the Presidential polls.

The Court then ordered Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to hold fresh Presidential polls within a period of 150 days.
