Chilima says Malawians ready to vote at any day set by MEC

State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also a runningmate to Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has said the opposition alliance is geared to win the forthcoming elections regardless of the date which the elections will be held.

Chilima said this during a whistle stop tour held in Ntheu on Friday ahead of the fresh Presidential polls scheduled for July 2, 2020.

“We will vote on any day they want. Whether its June or 2 July. What is really wrong with MEC?,” Chilima told party supporters.

Chilima has also spoken out against the ruling DPP for claiming it won the disputed elections, telling supporters that if the party had won the elections, it wouldn’t have abandoned Everton Chimulirenji, President Peter Mutharika’s running mate in the disputed elections who like Chilima, hails from Ntcheu District.

On Wednesday, Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah proposed a new date for fresh Presidential polls during ameeting in Mangochi.

Ansah proposed June 23 as a day for fresh polls.
