Japanese National ‘Sexually Harassed’ At Yoga Centre,Three Arrested

A 27-year-old woman from Japan has levelled allegations of verbal abuse and sexual harassment against two teachers and a staff member of a yoga centre in Rishikesh where she had come to take yoga classes there.

The affected woman approached the police on Saturday and got a complaint registered against the three accused. Based on her complaint, the police arrested the three accused and booked them under sections 354A (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). A team has been commissioned by Dehradun SSP for investigating the matter.

The police stated that the affected Russian woman was learning yoga at a yoga teacher training school located in Rishikesh’s IDPL colony when the accused began sexually harassing her in the month of March this year.

While speaking to the Times of India, Omkant Bhushan, senior sub-inspector, Rishikesh Police Station, said that the woman accused the three men of demanding sexual favours from her. She alleged that they used “abusive language” on her and made sexual advancements.

The three accused includes training centre’s two yoga teachers, identified as Chandra Kant (32) and Harikishan (43) and a kitchen staffer, identified as Somraj (23). The sub-inspector added that all three of will be produced before a magistrate in a court soon.

Last month, a Colombian national, who got stranded in Mumbai due to lockdown, accused a Mumbai sending “flirtatious” messages and making sexual advancements. The complainant claimed that the police officer, who was instructed by the embassy to assist her in getting accommodation, proposed to have drinks with him. She claimed that despite refusing and avoiding him, the cop continued to send her inappropriate texts.
