Man Strangles Pregnant Wife For Going To Relative

The blinkers of patriarchy have flashed yet again. In an appalling incident that has come to light from the national capital, a 30-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly murdered by her husband on Monday morning as she had gone to meet one of her relative’s in the neighbourhood without telling him.

The incident took place within the territorial limits of Ambedkar Nagar Police Station at Dakshinpuri in South Delhi. At around 12:30 am the accused, identified as Vijay, went to the police station and told the officials that he has killed his wife.

A team of police officials was deputed to his house where they found the woman lying dead in the bedroom. The officials noticed a strangulation mark on the deceased woman’s neck. During questioning, the accused confessed of having strangled his wife after an argument.

The deceased woman was identified as Hemalata. She was five months pregnant. Her husband Vijay’s sister lives in the neighbourhood. Hemlata went to meet her on Saturday evening when Vijay was away for purchasing some household items.

However, before she could come back, Vijay reached home. He became extremely angry after not finding her at home upon his arrival. When Hemlata returned to the house, the couple got into a quarrel and Vijay strangled her, according to a report of The Times of India.

The deceased woman’s sister, identified as Asha, alleged that Vijay used to torture her and would not let her meet anybody. The accused has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Despite having strict laws, it appears that there is no lockdown on violence and crimes against women. In another incident, a Kolkata woman claimed that her husband attacked her with a kitchen knife and attempted to slice off her fingers when she asked him to stay indoors amid lockdown.
