MEC to conduct free and fair elections, Says Ansah

The Chairperson of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Dr. Jane Ansah has assured the Malawians that the commission will ensure that the coming presidential election is free and fair.

The Chairperson spoke this during presentation of nominations papers by Malawi Congress Party (MCP), United Transformation Movement (UTM) and their alliance partners at Mount Soche in Blantyre.

The current MEC commissioners conducted 2019 presidential elections which were nullified by the High Court in Lilongwe saying the  elections faced a number of irregularities.

The High Court ordered a fresh election in 150 days and according to MEC, the elections will take place on July 2.

Different organization led by Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) have demonstrated in the country for the past months asking the current Chairperson of MEC to resign saying she failed to manage the 2019 elections.

Will Jane Ansah satisfy Malawians this time around?
