Political Expert Urges Judiciary to Nominate Ansah’s Replacement

A political science expert Ernest Thindwa has asked the Judicial Service Commission to nominate a judge who has public trust to replace Jane Ansah as Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson.

Last week the office of MEC chairperson fell vacant following the stepping aside of Ansah, hence Thindwa’s call.

Following Constitutional Court’s ruling to nullify My 21, 2019 presidential elections, Ansah and all MEC commissioners were found incompetent to further run elections in the country.

Meanwhile president Peter Mutharika has up to June five to come up with the name of the judge who will replace Ansah as the country is heading to fresh presidential polls which were sanctioned by the Constitutional Court.

On the other hand the Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament has urged he secretariat of MEC to continue with preparations for fresh presidential polls.

Chairperson for the committee Kezzie Msukwa said the commission needs to continue preparing if Malawians are to go to polls on June 23.
