TUM Faulted for Being Passive on Re-opening Schools Issue

Teachers’ Union o Malawi (TUM) has been faulted for being passive on the debate about re-opening of schools in the country.

In March President Peter Mutharika issued a directive that shut down all learning institutions in a bid to control the spread of the coronavirus.

Recently, there have been frantic calls from various stakeholders for government to re-open the schools considering that some sectors have not been adhering to the measures that have been put in place.

One concerned teacher who asked for anonymity stresses that TUM must be proactive if this issue is to be positively addressed.

Reacting to the development TUM Secretary General Charles Kumchenga denies claims of the passiveness emphasizing on the importance of looking through the implications to the reopening of schools.
