Mutharika out of lockdown, takes UDF-DPP alliance to Thyolo

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika who is also the torchbearer for DPP-UDF alliance has come out of his cocoon to join the campaign trail ahead of the fresh Presidential polls scheduled for June 23, 2020.

President Mutharika has not been seen on public since the presentation of nomination papers event on May 7 but on Friday Mutharika told Malawians through Malawi Broadcasting Cooperation that his absence from political campaign is because he is complying with COVID-19 preventive measures.

According to the statement from the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), Mutharika will today visit the Malawi University of Science and Technology MUST in Thyolo district to appreciate what students have innovated in the fight against Covid-19.

The trip to MUST will start at 1 o’clock in the afternoon.

Thereafter, the President will conduct a whistle stop tour that will take him to Goliati, Thyolo Boma and finally Bvumbwe Trading Centre.

The fresh Presidential polls follows a constitutional Court ruling nullifying the May 21, 2019 Presidential polls.
